The Story

🦏 Brontops sp. Skull Replica (Brontotheriidae / Titanotheriidae)

Brontotheres, also known as Titanotheres, are a family of extinct Eocene mammals in the order Perissodactyla—the same group that includes horses, tapirs, and rhinos. Though they resemble rhinoceroses, brontotheres were not true rhinos and are more closely related to horses. They thrived until the end of the Eocene Epoch.

This particular specimen is a Brontops sp. (possibly robustus), and was discovered in the Crazy Johnson Member of the Chadron Formation in Custer County, South Dakota.
