Velociraptor mongoliensis
The name, Velociraptor, means "swift robber." Velociraptor possessed a tail with stiffening rods, long forelimbs with grasping hands, and a large raptorial claw on the second toe of the foot. It also had a relatively large brain, large eyes and may have had advanced sensory capabilities similar to those of its living bird relatives. The skeletal similarities between the first known bird, Archaeopteryx, and other small theropods, such as Velociraptor, are overwhelming. For example, Velociraptor had a wishbone. formed by fused collar bones, in addition to a half-moon-shaped wrist bone. Both of these features were present in the common ancestor of birds as well as these little carnivorous dinosaurs.
